Alé is a cross-media project meant to mitigate the loss of a sociolect: Minderico. This language with only five hundred speakers is endangered and not much is being done. It was born as a code language among blanket traders, and the patterns made out of wool served as guidelines for the identity of the project.
We can divide Alé in three main objects. the presentation of the project was done through a video, explaining what it is about why it is relevant.
The project includes a Portuguese-Minderico translator (with both website and app), communication posters, which were done through a generative approach based on the blankets patterns, and signage for the village facilities.
The signage was designed using a font I created. It is also inspired by the tapestries' geometry.
This project was developed within the scope of the Communication Design Workshop course, part of the Master in Design and Multimedia at the University of Coimbra (Coimbra, Portugal), and under the guidance of Professors Nuno Coelho and Tiago Martins.
